FAQs

Q: What geographic areas does Geeks at Site cover?
Geeks at Site offers computer repair to the Federal Way area and the entire South King and North Pierce County regions.

Q: How long will it take to fix my computer?
A: It depends on the complexity of the problem. Many times we can fix the computer in under 3-4 days. For an additional fee, we can place your service issue at the top of our list to be fixed as soon as possible.

Some jobs simply take longer than others. But we will make sure to give you an estimated wait time after diagnosing the issues. Either way, we are always working hard to make sure you get your computer back as soon as possible.

Q: Do you offer a guarantee?
A: We offer a 10-day warranty. Call us within 10 days of service for our no-hassle warranty.

Q: What makes Geeks at Site different?
A: Geeks at Site is local and goes the extra mile for our clients as well as our community. We take extra time to listen to all of our customers’ computer issues, making sure we address each one individually.

We also provide our clients with educational information to help them avoid more computer problems in the future.

Q: Do I need an appointment to drop off my computer?
A: Absolutely not. Our Federal Way office is staffed and ready to take your computer any time you bring it in during our normal business hours: M-F, 10-7 and Saturday 10-2.

Q: Is my computer too old to be repaired?
A: It depends. If you are happy and your computer is working, probably not. A lot of people replace their computers every 4-5 years. But, if your current computer meets your needs, keep it until the cost of repairs is more than the computer is worth.

Q: Do I have a virus?
A: If your computer is running slow, you have a lot of pop-ups or are being redirected to websites you don’t want to go to, these are some indicators of a possible virus or malware infection.

Q: What can I do to keep my computer updated and safe?
A: Make sure you are using one anti-virus software program. If you use more than one, they will conflict with each other. Set your Microsoft updates to do automatic updates once a day, at a time when you are not using your computer.

Note, you can also set your anti-virus scanner to automatically scan. Just don’t set your anti-virus program and MS updates to come on at the same time. Perform a de-fragmentation, scan disk and disk cleanup at least once a month.

If you’re not sure how to run these maintenance operations, come into our shop and we will be happy to show you how.

Q: Can I buy a new computer from you?
A: Absolutely, we represent a company that sells high-end business grade machines to service your business and corporate needs. In addition, we also sell refurbished computers in excellent condition at very low prices.

Q: What should I look for in a new computer?
A: The most important things to consider when purchasing a new computer regards its functionality. You should look at the amount of RAM (Random Access Memory). RAM is the memory available for programs to use.

The next thing you should look at is hard drive size. This will determine how much data you can store on your computer. Finally, the type of processor you have is very important. The processor is the “brain” of the computer.

It performs many major functions and the faster the processor, the better your computer will be able to manage tasks.

Q: My computer is slow. How can I make it faster?
A: It depends. Check to see if there is any running programs or installed programs you don’t use. Also, delete your cookies, temp files, run a scan-disk and defragment the hard drive.

Q: What are managed services?
