We recently had a client recently had a client who had their phone number and photos posted on a website that solicits for prostitution. This kind of abuse has been coined “revenge porn.” Revenge porn can include having your personal information compromised on adult sites, having explicit pictures posted of you, or general sexual harassment. If you are a victim of revenge porn, there are several steps you can take to protect yourself and your reputation.

  1. Files a police report
  2. Report it to the platform it was posted on.
  3. Screenshot the images as evidence. If the content gets taken down, you will have no evidence
  4. Change your phone number. Often the victims phone number will be posted along with the images
  5. Have your local IT shop clone the hard drive and have a new hard drive put into your computer. You may have been hacked and not even know it.
  6. Reset your router and your home network. It is possible that your home network has been compromised.
  7. Change your social media passwords or close those accounts
  8. Contact a credit monitoring service like LifeLock or Legal Shield. They can monitor and fix your credit.

Don’t panic. There are things that you can do to restore your reputation and your dignity.
